(Coffee Addicts at a 16ozDays x SK event)
Hi there Coffee Addicts and happy Sunday! The team has been hard at work recently working on a very special, very exciting project that we can’t wait to tell you more about. Tonight, we want to give you a little sneak peak into one aspect of our program; something that each and every one of you can have an impact on. We are so exhilarated to announce that for our upcoming coffee club program (hehe) we are officially an enrolled business partner with the National Forest Foundation to plant one tree for every new member.
Sustainability in Coffee
(Growing coffee cherries)
You might be asking, why are we doing this? What is the importance of planting trees and what does this have to do with a coffee program? Well, curious reader, making sure we are making sustainable choices when it comes to coffee plays a huge role in the future of the industry and our planet.
According to the Perfect Daily Grind, āAgriculture drives 80% of tropical deforestation and coffee farming requires huge amounts of resourcesā (Perfect Daily Grind). This means coffee plantations that aren’t planted with the natural environment in mind will have detrimental impacts on massive carbon sinks like tropical rainforests. Releasing CO2 into the atmosphere will only continue to worsen the impacts of climate change.
As coffee demand grows, more and more plantations will spring up (Perfect Daily Grind). One great way to know if your coffee is being grown sustainability is to look for a Rainforest Alliance certification. The Rainforest Alliance works to develop innovative futures for coffee farms by tackling tropical deforestation (The Rainforest Alliance). By receiving this certification, you know that farmers are making headway working against deforestation and climate change, and towards a more sustainable future.
About the National Forest Foundation
Here’s where we come in. The National Forest Foundation, (NFF), is an amazing program that āleads forest conservation efforts and promotes responsible recreationā (NFF). The NFF works for the American Public to make sure we are cultivating a sustainable future; one where we can continue to have meaningful connections with nature. They planted over 7.3 million trees in 2021, including more than 23 tree species, and reforesting 21,000 acres (NFF).
As a small business NFF partner, we will be assisting in their efforts to plant 50 million trees. Through the program NFF has already been able to plant around 715,000 trees, making massive impacts in our landscape (NFF). Now, through our coffee club, for every new member we will be donating one tree to be planted! We want to make sure that we, as coffee addicts, are being mindful of our consumption and the impact it has. By being part of this program with the NFF we’re hoping to work alongside the goals of amazing organizations like the Rainforest Alliance.

As we always preach, our money matters as consumers. What we are buying and who we are buying from can have huge impacts on our future. We are honored to be able to use this platform to make an impact and make sure this kind of information is being spread.
We hope this sneak peak into a little segment of our upcoming coffee club has made you eager to know more and excited for what is to come; we know we are. In the upcoming weeks we can’t wait to tell you even more about what we gave going on behind the scenes here at 16ozDays.
