(Dusty behind the bar helping out a customer!)
Good Morning Coffee Addicts,
Today’s Blog will be all about Cosmic Coffee! “Oh Dil this spot isn’t as developed as some of the others yet” doesn’t matter-there are many reasons why I chose them, stay tuned folks.
A Little Background
Remember Amanda from Vitality? She’s the one that connected me with Dusty, the owner of Cosmic Coffee. Connecting the dots, yes, Cosmic gets their beans from Vitality Roasting so you already know you’ll be slapped in the face with how strong their drinks are.
“There’s not yet a word for old friends that just met”. That’s the one thing that stands out in one of my first conversations with Dusty back in February. We have similar beliefs and I feel like he’s one of those guys that just gets it. When we first spoke Dusty was still working a mental health position, funnily enough just blocks away from my old work. He has a caring heart and does his best to support his community.
Speaking of community, Dusty has lived in Northeast Minneapolis for 7 years-pushing 8. At first he was thinking of starting with just a coffee cart or a coffee truck first, but he ended up doubling down and going all in with a coffee shop. Fast forward 6 months, he’s decided to leave his full time position so he can focus on Cosmic Coffee full time!
What it’s like here
(Some welcoming art on one of Cosmic’s walls)
I’ve mentioned it time and time again, what makes a good coffee shop great isn’t just the coffee, it’s also a mix of the ambiance and the service-how it makes you feel. Hospitality here is exquisite. Dusty makes sure that everyone that comes in is greeted and treated with respect. He makes great conversation and keeps up with the neighboring locals and their lives.
Ambiance
It’s a smaller space with roughly 20 seats on the inside offer both style seating along the walls and chairs on the other side of the table. They also have a nice patio space in their shared backyard that has additional seating! It’s a fun environment with the local drawings on the wall & the chalkboard menu. Dusty has started everything from scratch and improves his shop every single day.
Who You’d See Here
Dusty always saw this corner spot as a coffeeshop. Being one of the only ones in this area of Northeast they actually get a decent amount of traffic. From the times I’ve been there, many locals have stopped by as well as neighbors. There isn’t a certain demographic I’ve noticed that comes to Cosmic-that may be because they welcome everyone, quite literally it’s written on the wall hahaha. “Welcome to Cosmic* you are welcome as you are* we’re glad you are here*.
The Most Unique Thing
(THEE Suspeso Wall)
I’d have to say the thing that stands out the most is their “Sospeso Suspended” Coffee Wall. “What’s this wall thing Dil?” WELL. Remember that thing I mentioned earlier about how Dusty has a caring heart? Here’s one of the defining things. Imagine a wall full of stars. The word Sospeso originates from Italy, it means “suspended”. Not everyone can afford quality coffee and some days people just forget to bring their wallets! This wall is for those days, every star is one drink. This is a great way to pay it forward to the community!

Wrapping Up
(Dusty, one of the kindest human beings you’ll ever meet)
I love seeing my friends grow. Cosmic is our youngest partner so far and it has been a joy to see how far they’ve from their opening day on February 2nd until now. Dusty continues to experiment with new combinations for specialty drinks every day to expand the menu. He has done live art events, had live music in the backyard on the patio, and continues to experiment new coffee combinations for new specialty drinks to expand the menu! Go support him and the community!
Hope you guys have a happy Sunday, enjoy the fair!
With Gratitude,
Dil
